Effects Of Global Warming

Global warming is increasing steadily over time due to the greenhouse effect from contributing causes such as pollutants and gases. As global warming increases, the Earth also will begin to experience the effects of global warming, some of which are already occurring. Here are some of the many effects of global warming that are predicted to be experienced in the future, as well as, some effects that are already happening presently.

Water Shortages

As the Earth experiences a rise in temperatures from global warming, many places in the world will experience extreme droughts or shortages of water supply. In addition to this, heat waves will become more and more common. Many areas of the Earth are already experiencing these two effects of global warming. A shortage of water, not only affects the lives of those who need water to survive, but can devastate food supplies and crops for farmers. This can cause an increase in the prices of food, and even cause a food shortage as the population increases and food supplies decrease.

More Hurricanes

In addition to shortages of water, another consequence of the rising temperatures will be the increased occurrence of hurricanes. The rise in temperature increases the warmth of oceanic water, producing a greater likelihood of hurricanes; this not only kills human beings, but also causes severe economic devastation to areas near the coasts and waterways who struggle to rebuild after each storm passes. Furthermore, hurricanes can cause major flooding in many areas which leads to even more cleanup and financial devastation.

Melting of Polar Ice Caps

One of the major effects of global warming that is already occurring is the melting of thepolar ice caps. As temperatures rise, these glaciers and ice caps melt; this causes sea levels to rise, which can destroy island cities and beaches. In addition, the melting of the polar ice capscan change the entire ecosystem, which may affect many of the animals and wildlife that live in these areas. This change in temperature could endanger some populations of species in these colder areas, making it difficult for them to survive.

More Forest Fires

Lastly, as severe droughts emerge in areas due to increased global warming, there is a risk of more forest fires throughout these areas. This is already occurring in some areas of Europe as well as the United States. The forest fires not only destroy homes, take lives, and threaten wildlife, but also, these fires release higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. As a domino affect, this pollution simply adds to the global warming problem by adding to thegreenhouse affect.
Global warming affects lives, wildlife, and the economic realities of many countries, areas and people. The effects of global warming can be devastating by causing increasing droughts, floods, hurricanes, and natural disasters such as forest fires. This is why it is imperative to reduce the causes of global warming and pay attention to how each person’s carbon footprint affects the earth and its inhabitants.
