Causes Of Global Warming

Global warming is the gradual rising of the Earth’s atmospheric temperature over a period of time. This increase in temperature has been attributed to various gases or pollutants that are released into the Earth’s atmosphere, including carbon dioxide and methane. Many factorscause the release of these gases. However, here are some of the basic causes of global warming gases and pollutants.

Burning of Fossil Fuels

The burning of fossil fuels is a major contributor to global warming. These fossil fuels include many of the items that are used to generate energy on the earth, such as coal and oil. Both release a gas called CO2, also known as carbon dioxide. This process is also known as thegreenhouse effect because CO2 is considered a greenhouse gas, meaning that it traps heat in the Earth’s atmosphere in much the same way that a greenhouse traps heat to grow plants. In addition to burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil, another huge source of global warming is the increase of methane being released into the atmosphere.

Methane Gas

Methane is another gaseous substance or pollutant that is released into the atmosphere, contributing to the rise in temperature or global warming. Methane can be released in many ways into the atmosphere, but one critical way it is released is through the drilling and mining of fossil fuels like coal and oil. When the ground is broken to drill for these fuels, the methane that was originally trapped beneath the ground is released. Not only does drilling and mining release this gas, but also, the increase of the world’s population is another contributing factor to the methane gas issue.

Increase in the World’s Population

As the population of the world increases, so does the need for things like food, energy, and transportation. Increased population requires more vehicles to transport, which creates more emissions in the air. In addition to increased pollutants from cars and trucks, energy costs increase as well. More coal and oil are burned to compensate for an increased energy need. Added to this is the need for more food. As farmers use more manure, which naturally releases methane into the air, to grow and produce food for the growing population, global warming increases dramatically.

Increase in the Size of Landfills

As the world’s population increases, so does the amount of the world’s trash. As Earthlings create more and more garbage for landfills by refusing to recycle and reuse, these piles of decaying food, trash, and paper create a large amount of methane and carbon dioxide gases as they break down within the landfills. In addition to this, the amount of energy required to create all of the products that are thrown into landfills contributes to the global warmingcauses as well.
Global warming is a serious issue in the world today. The world’s growth in population, coupled with the inability of many humans to recycle and reuse, are some of the main contributing factors to global warming. By evaluating and creating new ways of creatingenergy and using energy, not only can the world be made a cleaner place, but also the causes of global warming can be reduced and hopefully eliminated.
